Pinterest Conversion API

Setting up the Pinterest API tag

Go to your Google Tag Manager server container and add the Pinterest API for Conversions Tag, in the Template category under Tag template to your workspace.

In the server container, create a new tag and name it.

Click 'Tag configuration' and select the Pinterest Conversions template.

Enter your Pinterest Tag ID which can be found in your Pinterest account on the 'Conversions' page.

If you don't see a Pinterest Tag ID, go to Tag management within Pinterest and click 'Install Pinterest tag'. You should then see your Tag ID at the top right.

Under access token, enter your Pinterest account's access token. You can generate this on the same 'Conversions' page where you can find your Tag ID.

Under 'Event Name' select 'Override client' and choose the event you want to forward to Pinterest with this tag.

Choose a trigger that matches your chosen event.

If you chose page_view as your event, you will need to use a pageview web trigger. Because the configuration with the web container runs through GA4, you will need to set a web trigger on the Client Name GA4. In this case, you only want to fire this tag on pageviews, so the Event Name should equal pageview.

Save the tag.

In preview mode, see if the action you want to track also causes a tag fire.

Publish your container if everything is set up correctly.

Check within your Pinterest Business Account if everything is coming in correctly.
