Shopify tagging pixel & data layer conversion to Shopify App

Since October 3, 2024, our own AdPage Shopify App has finally gone live. With this app, you no longer need to access the theme code to place the data layer and tagging pixel scripts.

You can find the AdPage Shopify App here: AdPage Tagging Shopify Plugin

To install the Shopify app, follow these steps:

Go to your trytagging container.

Go to pixel installation.

Select ‘Shopify App’ instead of ‘Shopify (deprecated)’.

Follow the first steps to install the Tagging Plugin on the Shopify site. Afterward, you will automatically be redirected back to your trytagging container, and your instructions will be automatically updated.

Follow the new instructions once you’re redirected from Shopify. Carry out the following steps:

- Add the GTM IDs and Server Container URLs.
- Activate the automatic webhooks for the Shopify backend.
- Add the customer events pixel.

To remove the old tagging pixel and data layer scripts, follow these steps:

Open your theme code by going to the Online Store in Shopify

.

Remove the scripts placed after opening the and code in your theme.liquid file.

This could also be done via snippet renders:

In Shopify, go to the Notification Settings and Webhooks.

Delete the /order_created webhook (only if you set up the automatic webhooks when implementing the Shopify App).

Go to your Checkout settings within Shopify.

Remove the scripts from the ‘Order Status Page’ functionality.
